About the Founder - Joanne Rencher

With 25 years of experience across the profit, non-profit, domestic and global arenas, Joanne brings a wealth of executive leadership experience to her roles.

She began her career in a bond insurance company – Financial Guaranty Insurance Company (FGIC) – as part of the GE/GE Capital conglomerate.  Working with bond analysts and senior leaders at GE/GE Capital, Joanne was part of the team that led FGIC through a proactive company ‘reinvention’, well before the economic downturn of 2008 where the company was forced to react to harsh environments.  She won several leadership and other awards during her tenure at FGIC.

With the opportunity to work with and for leading-edge innovators in the GE business, Joanne accepted a role as a Human Resources Manager supporting a dedicated client group, which began her move through progressively responsible roles in the field.

In 2001, she was recruited to build a global human resources unit from the ground floor, and nearly 7 years later, Joanne was leading a matrixed team on 4 continents and in 6 countries for the first public-private partnership to work on advocacy and vaccine research/development for an AIDS vaccine – the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI).  Funded by Bill Gates through his foundation, IAVI went on to establish a presence in over 23 countries, conducting numerous clinical trials in partnership with others in the field.

More recently, Joanne worked for the American Red Cross – a role that exemplifies the emerging strategic role of human capital management in the nonprofit sector.  She held both human resources and P&L responsibilities as a member of the executive team at the largest regional office.  There, she led efforts to establish a shared services model, simplifying lines of reporting consolidating operations and improving performance.  During her tenure, the volunteer population more than quadrupled through the design and implementation of a new volunteer database, a technology project co-led by Joanne and the Chief Administrative Officer.  At the American Red Cross, Joanne helped to conceptualize an innovative revenue-generation initiative which produced a diverse portfolio of ideas to increase revenue at a critical juncture for the Region.  As an executive leader at the American Red Cross, Joanne was tapped to serve as the Acting CEO of a Red Cross Chapter during a period of great challenges and just as many opportunities.

Joanne has served as a nonprofit consultant for the sector, advising senior leaders, Board members and staff at leading-edge organizations in the education, economic development and social services industries – among them, College Possible (recognized by President Obama for its innovative approach to coaching and support for low income students seeking college admission), Room to Read, and the Children’s Aid Society.  Later on,  serving as Vice President, Human Capital for the New Teacher Project (TNTP) further cemented Joanne's commitment to bold social impact causes.

Named a 2016 HR Hero for Oustanding Mentorship, Joanne was the Girl Scouts' first ever Chief Business and Talent Officer of the national office of the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).  Those responsibilities include two broad areas: strategic and operational leadership of talent and culture; and overall responsibility for the Girl Scouts'  Cultural and Property Assets. The latter area focuses on leveraging GSUSA's unique history, collections and property (Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, New York Headquarters and Edith Macy Conference Center). In both areas, Joanne worked to ensure that talent and other assets were best positioned to enable Girl Scouts' overarching strategy: reach more girls, achieve higher impact, strengthen the brand and increase investments.

Joanne's visionary and leading-edge approach to business and talent led to the launch of GSUSA's first workforce analytics function, leveraging data to shape talent solutions.
